I look back this past year, and I get extremely depressed... Help?

Sweetie, I'm sorry to hear you're brokenhearted at Christmas time. But I want you to understand something; You should be GLAD you did not end up married to this man. I promise, you do not want to spend the rest of your life with a man whose parents make the important decisions in his life for him. If he truly loved you, I'm talking about the kind of deep, committed love that is necessary for a successful marriage, he would have told his parents to go **** themselves and stayed engaged to you. However, you should look for a man who is not going to "shack up" with you anyway. Moving in with someone before you're married is always a bad idea. If your future husband truly loves and respects you, he will provide a marital home for you (or half of one if you both work) and wait till you are married to do so. This Christmas, give yourself the gift of Self Respect.
